has been the place of origin for many major religions
of the world and has important pilgrimage spots
of others. For centuries, mythology and mystique
has swept the land and there are a number of temples,
mosques, monasteries, churches and gurudwaras
that have gained a prominence amongst the most
visited places in India.
India is the birthplace of some of the world's
major religions including Buddhism, Hinduism,
Sikhism and Jainism. People of almost all faiths
of the world such as Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians,
Jain, Buddhists, Zoroastrianism are living harmoniously
in India for many centuries and have their own
pilgrimage sites.
The city of Sarnath popular amongst the Buddhist
as the spot where Lord Buddha delivered his first
sermon, which revealed the eight-fold path after
His enlightenment. In Bodhgaya under the holy
Bodhi tree Lord Buddha is believed to have attained
Enlightenment. Vaishali is another pilgrimage
destination where Gautam Buddha had delved His
last sermon and announced His Nirvana.
